Tanning Bed Pityriasis Rosea

Should I go to a tanning bed for Pityriasis Rosea?

About 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Pityriasis Rosea by my dermatoligist. The rash covered basically my entire body beside lower legs and face. She did 4 light treatments on me for 2 minutes at a time over a period of 1 1/2 weeks and the majority of my rash went away. A week later it reappeared on the sides of my rib cage, stomach and upper thighs and is very annoying, itchy and painful in the shower. I don't really want to go back to the derm so I am highly considering going to a tanning salon for a few weeks. Does this sound like an option?

Pityriasis rosea usually goes away within 6 - 12 weeks, and it doesn't usually come back. While some exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light may help the rash, you do risk getting sunburned which would make the rash worse and even more painful.

As far as the pain, things like gentle bathing, mild lubricants, creams, or mild hydrocortisone creams may be used to soothe inflammation. Antihistamines like Benadryl, taken by mouth, should be used to reduce itching.

So, while tanning may make the rash fade, you risk sunburn and it doesn't completely fix the painful itching. Try Benadryl for a few days and see if that helps.
Luckily, you should be better in another month or two.
